Gent Sint-Pieters is one of the fastest growing train stations in Flanders. The update of the Master Plan for Public Space is intended to indicate the principles and lines of force for the further development of the station surroundings.

This means building on existing work, but also thinking critically about the place of new topics such as shared mobility, climate adaptation and the exploding number of cyclists.

The team Basil Descheemaeker - Plus Office Architects bvba - Traject - Endeavour combined an update of the mobility study, new traffic scenarios, case studies on both squares and a design manual for the public space into a supported master plan.

The first phase focused on mobility and involved information markets, an open sounding board group, surveys and an online discussion moment.

In phase 2, a spatial layer was added to include climate resilience and exclusivity in the basis of the masterplan.
