Together with the team of the Flemish State Architect, we developed a series of practical instruments, that allow them to advise public clients around participation in procedures such as ‘Open Oproep’ or ‘Oproep aan Geïnteresseerden’.

We wrote a basic vision for participation in architecture projects. We added a conversation guide to refine the participation challenge together with clients: who should be involved, around what topics, and in which phase of the project?

We also developed a decision-making framework: can this participation assignment be executed by the client itself, or which procedure can be used to find an external participation partner?

Moreover, we developed an evaluation tool to assess participation in design proposals, and a checklist for clear agreements between client, designer and participation expert to steer and adjust the participation process at the start and throughout the trajectory.
